AMERICAN HEBREW ACADEMY RECEIVES $25,000 GRANT
TO SUPPORT HONOR SOCIETY TRAVEL STIPENDS
NOW AVAILABLE TO PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Greensboro, North Carolina - January 6, 2010 - A $25,000 challenge grant has been made to the American Hebrew Academy by the parents of a recent Academy graduate. This gift is intended to support the Academy's newly announced Honor Society and will be used to fund prospective student travel to visit the Academy's campus. Up to 100 Honor Society students will receive incentive grants of $250 per family to visit the Academy with their child.
"The Academy was a transformative experience for our daughter and we have been searching for ways to give back. As anyone who has visited the campus can attest, a visit is "priceless". Our first visit to the campus literally "took our breath away."In addition to the world class education the Academy offers, we believe a visit is an incredibly powerful recruitment tool. We are honored to be able to contribute in this way," stated the donors.
"Statistically, we know that 90% of mission appropriate students who visit the Academy will ultimately enroll," says Leslie Grossman, Director of Admissions. "This incentive program marks an important step in the Academy's ability to attract students and reduce costs for families."
The American Hebrew Academy Honor Society is a prestigious program that recognizes outstanding Jewish eighth grade students from around the globe and who demonstrate excellence in academics, leadership, service to community, and character. Due to an overwhelming response to the program and the new incentive travel grant, the application deadline for nominations to the Honor Society has been extended to February 10, 2010.
The society's goal is to recognize those students who are identified by Jewish educators, teachers, Rabbis, Jewish community professionals, camp directors, counselors, coaches, and/or friends for membership into the American Hebrew Academy Honor Society. All students inducted into the Honor Society will vie for five (5) $20,000 annual merit-based scholarships to attend the American Hebrew Academy, amounting to $80,000 over the course of their four year academic program.
The Academy's founder, Maurice "Chico" Sabbah z"l, was often quoted to have said, "If you build it, they will come." In these difficult economic times, the Academy is most thankful to receive this generous gift that will help encourage prospective students and their families to visit the Academy's state of the art facility and enroll.
